The Washington Redskins defeated the Denver Broncos 42-10 in Super Bowl XXII. Redskins quarterback Doug Williams was named MVP, throwing for 340 yards and 4 touchdown passes. |
| 1993 |
The Dallas Cowboys crushed the Buffalo Bills, 52-17, in the most lopsided Super Bowl in history. Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman fires four touchdown passes and throws for 273 yards to collect the MVP trophy. |
| 1997 |
Buffalo QB Jim Kelly announced his retirement. The 36-year-old Kelly was the club's starting quarterback since 1986. |

Unbridled's Song, the 1996 Kentucky Derby favorite who finished fifth in the "Run for the Roses," will be put out to stud because of a broken bone in his front right leg. |

John Elway threw for 336 yards and one score, an 80-yarder to Rod Smith, and also rushed for a touchdown, as the Denver Broncos crushed the Atlanta Falcons, 34-19 in Super Bowl XXXIII at Pro Player Stadium. It was their second straight Super Bowl victory and raised their overall season record to 17-2 and their Super Bowl record to 2-3. Elway was named the MVP. Also dazzling were Smith, who caught five pases for 152 yards and the long touchdown and Terrell Davis, who ran for 102 yards on 25 carries. The Broncos became the first team to win back-to- back Super Bowls since Dallas in 1993 and '94 and the first AFC team to do so since Pittsburgh in 1979 and '80. |
